These living history museums in New Hampshire are very educational about how folks once lived.

  • Strawbery Banke Museum (Portsmouth): The historic living museum tells the story of Puddle Dock, a waterfront neighborhood. Here folks learn about more than 350 years of history up to current times. Tour the houses on their original sites, historical interpreters guide the way and answer questions, learn the traditional way crafts were made through live demonstrations, and appreciate the heirloom gardens and historical landscapes. 
  • Canterbury Shaker Village (Canterbury): This interesting village was established by the followers of Mother Ann Lee in 1792, who was the founding leader of the Shakers. Canterbury Shaker Village was a thriving religious community until the last Shaker died in 1992. On a sprawling 700 acres, this historic space features 30 historic buildings, pretty ponds, nature trails, and gardens for a day filled with indoor and outdoor exploration.
  • Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm (Tamworth): A visit to this year-round museum center, farm grounds, and store is sure to jog a few memories. It is designed to tell the rich history of two country doctors and their village farmstead. The interesting historic site and working farm features gardens,  exhibits, and walking trails on the peaceful land. The site explores the 200-plus years of New Hampshire's agricultural traditions and the unique story of two country doctors who are father and son: Dr. Edwin Remick (1866–1935) and his son, Dr. Edwin “Doc” Crafts Remick (1903–1993).
