Eating out in New Hampshire is easy! There are so many great restaurants to choose from and many are affordable and quick. Best of all, healthy options are pretty plentiful as well. One of our favorites is this spot. But, there’s something a little more special about it!
Umami is located within what was once an 1806 colonial in Northwood. It was torn down to its studs by Executive chef Zach Squier, his brother Bobby Graves and their partner Jess Belair.
Today it's one of the best farm-to-table spots in the state. The name comes from the Japanese word meaning “savory” and flavors here are inspired by Japan and Korean ingredients.
The menu, written on a chalkboard, features dishes with ingredients that are all sourced from local New Hampshire suppliers. And most of them are nearby.
They also serve unique combinations like this Farmers Hash. It comes with Paradis Farm short ribs, sweet potato, mushrooms, kale, zucchini, napa cabbage, onion, arugula pesto, sweet potato puree, a poached local egg, balsamic reduction and a house biscuit.
Meals here are large, too. Which means you'll definitely be satisfied. Especially knowing that these ingredients are supporting local farms. And that they're not traveling far to get to you.
This place is special and you'll feel it as soon as you walk through the door!
Umami is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They’re closed on Monday and Tuesday. You can learn all about them on their website or check them out on Facebook. They can be reached on 603-942-6427.
