There’s something quite magical about hiking in the Granite State. You never know what you’ll find along certain trails, whether it’s a historical site, a waterfall, or a natural rock staircase. Today we are going to explore a fairy tale trail in New Hampshire that leads to a bridge and through an old-growth forest. It’s a magnificent hike that you will want to add to your list immediately.
Located in Tamworth, New Hampshire, Big Pine Natural Area is home to a trail that holds some characteristics of what one would find in a fairy tale.
Take the Betty Steele and Peg King Spur Trails for an exciting adventure through the woods. These spur trails form a 2.4-mile loop that will take just under an hour and a half to complete.
You will also have the opportunity to walk across an enchanting footbridge over the Swift River. From the bridge, you can look over the gorgeous gorge.
Most impressive of all here is the old-growth forest filled with towering Eastern white pine trees. Your jaw will drop when you see the height of some of these trees!
Enjoy the peace and quiet this old-growth forest brings. And keep your eyes and ears open for birds as this is a popular birdwatching spot in New Hampshire.
