It’s the road trips that include food that are really worth their weight in gas prices. If that’s a thing. Today, we give you our newest creation! The Only in New Hampshire Donut Trail! If you love the feeling of having a "local" you'll want to pick up and move to Lebanon. This neighborhood spot is as homey as it gets. The donuts are fresh and the smiles are authentic. Of course they are - Muriel Maville has been serving up donuts for more than 50 years and the enthusiasm hasn't waned. Visit them at: 20 West St., Lebanon
Next it's on to another longtime New Hampshire donut institution. Serving donuts and other baked goods for over 70 years (apparently they had a 20 year jump on Muriel!) they've perfected their recipe and it shows. Or rather, tastes? Visit them at: 51 E Pearl St., Nashua.
This is the stop for people who love variety. They often have nearly 50 different types of donuts, including specials that change often. We don't tell anyone if you come in here every day for one to-go. Or maybe three to-go. They're located at: 29 Indian Rock Rd., Windham
You can't possibly head to the beach without planning a stop here. While some might say that fried dough doesn't qualify as a donut, we're going to disagree for the sake of deliciousness. It's delicious and we vote that it counts. You'll want to omit this stop if you take the trip out of season, but this might be a good reason to do it twice! Perhaps the oldest on this list, Harvey's has been warming the hearts of the people of Dover for more than 80 years. They make great coffee, wonderful donuts and walking in feels like a community. Stay and eat in or eat it on the sidewalk while you walk to your car. Either way, you'll be glad you stopped. Visit them at: 376 Central Ave., Dover.
This is another shop with so many choices that you might just have to leave with one of each. But, if you do, be warned. There are over 50 different varieties. They've got the classics all the time, but seasonal donuts are popular as well. You can find them at: 746 Calef Hwy, Barrington.
The freshly made donuts at Brothers are hand cut giving them an extra-special leg up on the competition. They've been around for more than 35 years and they brew a good cup of coffee. They're located at: 426 Central St., Franklin.
You might miss this place if you're not looking for it. Although, if you're there in the morning you're likely to find a line. Follow that line inside and keep your fingers crossed that you get to the counter before they sell out, usually by 9 a.m. The donuts here are classic and you'll love 'em! They're located at: 235 Union Ave., Laconia.
