Here in New Hampshire, there are a few go-to methods for clearing the head. One of them is a road trip. And, as we all know, there are plenty of those to enjoy here! Similarly, another is simply getting outside to enjoy the fresh air and landscape. Luckily, there are plenty of outdoors to explore! These days, we’re loving the quiet ones that frequently fall off the radar. These wildlife trails in New Hampshire, located in Newbury, are a great example.
While not as well known as some of the other natural spots in the state, the Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Newbury is worth a visit.
The sanctuary got its start in 1988 when local landowners began working to preserve the area from increased Lake Sunapee development. It began as a 362-acre area. Later, the group added even more land. Today, the sanctuary is comprised of 617 acres and offers two trails for visitors to enjoy.
Another beauty is the Beech Hill Trail, which is about 1.5 miles and typically takes about an hour and a half round-trip. Be sure to follow the white blazes on this route.
If you love the idea of exploring the state's natural resources, but don't love crowded state parks, this is certainly something to put on your bucket list!
Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary is great to enjoy year-round. For information on trails and a map of where you’ll be going, visit the official New Hampshire Audubon website.
