New England offers two of our favorite things: great food and fascinating history. Find a place to combine them and you’ve got the makings of a great day. While we might be biased, we think New Hampshire offers some of the best opportunities to indulge your taste buds and get a dose of history. Whether family recipes passed down generations at a locally-owned spot, or newcomers to the state with fresh ideas, it’s not hard to find a great meal here. One of the oldest restaurants in New Hampshire is a must-visit for great food with fun history.
One of the many lovely inns located in New Hampshire, Three Chimneys Inn is a must-visit if you love the Lakes Region and all it has to offer.
There are 23 rooms here, all offering cozy stays for travelers looking to be close to it all. And those who like being close to their dining options will especially love this place!
The inn is also home to one of the oldest restaurants in New Hampshire. The Ffrost Sawyer Tavern setting dates back to the mid-1600s. Pictured here is the "Coppers" dining room. The oldest dining area in the house, it was originally the winter kitchen of the home in 1649.
Today, the oldest home in Durham is also one of our favorite restaurants. With a menu featuring everything from steak to seafood, you can't go wrong no matter what you love.
But don't avoid it in the winter when it just might be at its coziest! Check out prime rib night and there's a good chance you'll be back week after week.
Of course, we wouldn't love this place as much without a solid dessert menu and they don't disappoint! We love the specials, including this s'mores cake that made an appearance. Even if you're not lucky enough to find this when you visit, there's certainly going to be something special waiting for you.
Frost Sawyer Tavern in located within the Three Chimneys Inn is open for dining Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. They’re closed from Sunday through Tuesday. Of course, this schedule may change so be sure to check their website and Facebook page for current information. They can be reached on 603-868-7800.
