This Coastal Town Might Be The Most Charming Place In New Hampshire

New Hampshire might have the shortest ocean coastline in the nation, but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up in beauty. And while Portsmouth gets a lot of (well-deserved!) love for its quaint beauty, there’s a tiny town that we think is one of the most charming places in the state and is all too often overlooked.

North Hampton, less famous than neighboring Hampton, is no less beautiful – and it's much less overrun by crowds. Both the seashore and the inland, more agrarian parts of the town are lovely.

Since it dates back to 1639, this town of around 4,000 is full of lovely old homes, and its historic district is a joy to explore.

North Hampton State Beach is a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike, without the hullaballoo of Hampton Beach but with just as many good spots to swim and sunbathe.

When you tire of the beach, take a walk on Little Boar's Head Seaside Trail – it's one of the most lovely strolls you can find anywhere.

The town has plenty to offer beyond the seashore, as well. Visit North Hampton in the summer and you can't skip a stop at Fuller Gardens, an absolutely magnificent garden estate that dates back to the turn of the 20th century.

You also absolutely have to stop at Throwback Brewery, a brewpub which offers amazing beer and equally delicious food in a beautiful country setting.

And one of the best parts of living in North Hampon is that it's stunning in every season - there's something so starkly beautiful about a rocky beach under a coating of snow. Its residents are lucky indeed.
