As New Hampshire’s major hiking trailheads have become way more popular in recent years, I’ve been finding myself seeking out quieter alternatives. While the White Mountains get most of the attention, there are still plenty of places around the state to get out into nature for some peace and quiet. One of those is an old favorite of mine is the lightheartedly-named Trout-N-Bacon Trail, a best hike near Stoddard, NH.

Important: Due to light use and its remote location, this trail is best suited for experienced hikers who know how to follow obscure routes and who are properly equipped for backcountry travel. The trailhead parking is not reliably accessible in winter.
