When it comes to beautiful places to explore, New Hampshire might be the best state in the country. From caves to mountain peaks, there’s something for all skill levels and interests. Have you ever been out in the woods wishing the rest of America knew what you knew about the Granite State? Or, perhaps it’s the opposite! Maybe you feel fortunate that you’ve got all these hidden gems to yourself. Either way, the most beautiful waterfall in New Hampshire also happens to be one of America’s best kept secrets!
You won’t find any signs talking about Thompson Falls at Wildcat Mountain.
In the summer and early fall, when the waters of Thompson Falls is running strong, it’s beautiful. But, the beauty is only a portion of what makes it so great. What we love about it is that it’s relative obscurity makes it feel like a hidden gem.
The falls can be found about a mile from the bottom of the ski area at Wildcat Mountain. But, while people have meandered around the area for a long time, an official trail was only created in 2011.
This has helped keep the area less-visited and unspoiled. And, in a place where nature is a huge attraction, it’s nice to find the spots that feel new.
The waterfall is actually a series of falls, that total about 150 feet in length. The last one, into a clear, cool pool of water, is a whopping 20 feet of pure beauty.
You can reach Thompson Falls by heading to the Wildcat Mountain parking lot. From here, head out onto the Way of the Wildcat Trail which is a loop of about a half mile. At the end of the loop, you can continue on for another half mile to get to the falls. You can’t miss it.
