Visiting New Hampshire means cozy inns and lots of beautiful nature. It also means quaint towns and interesting history. We believe that the idea of “interesting history” can mean a lot of things. But we prefer it to mean haunting tales and spooky stories! If you also like your history to have a dose of chills, consider a stay at one of the oldest inns in the state. It’s rumored to be haunted and we’d have to say we agree!
The Tilton Inn, in (you guessed it!) Tilton has been around since 1875 and is even sometimes known as simply "The 1875 Inn."
Its location is convenient to a variety of things to do in the Granite State, but some might argue that simply staying for the weekend is an attraction unto itself!
The inn has had a few famous guests, including Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. In addition to notable guests, interesting history exists in the fact that the building has burned down three times!
One of the fires is said to have claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl named Laura. Laura's family lived in the Sanborn room in the 1800s and her spirit is said to roam the inn.
The TAPS Rhode Island investigative team has visited the inn and confirmed that there is, indeed, paranormal activity. if you believe in this sort of thing, you might meet Laura while enjoying yourself at dinner. The good news is that there's nothing too scary happening here. By all accounts a run-in with her is painless!
There are ten rooms available, each with a distinct character and unique name. The third floor features three apartments, which can also be rented for longer stays.
The Tilton Inn is open year-round. You can learn more about the inn, its history and book a room by checking out their website. You can also visit them on Facebook. You can reach them on 603-286-7774.
