We’re all familiar with the Seven Wonders of the World. However, did you know Nevada has its very own Seven Wonders? From beautiful lakes to magnificent caves, here are seven incredible places we consider to be the Seven Wonders of Nevada:
1. Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. It was constructed during the Great Depression and receives more than one million visitors yearly.
2. Pyramid Lake
Pyramid Lake is located approximately 40 miles from Reno and is one of America's most unique lakes. This unique lake is the largest remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan, which was once home to the 19th-century Paiute.
3. Lehman Caves
Lehman Caves, which is located within Great Basin National Park, was discovered during the late 1880s and attracts thousands of visitors yearly. This popular tourist attraction is a lovely marble cave containing numerous stalactites, stalagmites, helictites and more than 300 rare shield formations.
4. Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada's oldest and largest state park. It's located about 60 miles from the Las Vegas Strip and covers nearly 42,000 acres. Valley of Fire State Park's name is derived from red sandstone formations that were created from shifting sand dunes more than 150 million years ago, during the age of dinosaurs. Locals and visitors alike enjoy hiking and camping at this wonderful state park.
5. Truckee River
The Truckee River is 121 miles long, making it western Nevada’s largest river. This beautiful flowing river is the sole outlet of Lake Tahoe, and a few of its popular recreational activities include whitewater rafting, kayaking and fly fishing.
6. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, which is located approximately 15 miles from Las Vegas, features huge red rock formations, with some of the walls towering more than 3,000 feet. Due to the height of these incredible rock formations, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a popular hiking and rock climbing destination.
7. Lake Tahoe
In addition to being one of the most beautiful lakes in North America, Lake Tahoe is also the nation's largest alpine lake. This incredible lake was formed approximately two million years ago and is well known for its water clarity.
