Even if you find yourself moving away from Nevada at some point in your life, there are certain Nevadan-isms that stick with you forever. Let’s face it. It’s impossible to ignore these undying habits, and why would you want to ignore them? These things prove that you are a true Nevadan, through and through. How many are you guilty of?
1. Staying far, far away from the tourist spots.
We've had our fill of the Vegas nightlife, and we don't need anymore of it. In fact, being around the Strip kind of gives us a headache so we prefer to stay far away the neon and the noise.
2. Explaining to out-of-staters that there is much more to Nevada than Las Vegas.
Vegas is one very tiny portion of our enormous state. Ever heard of a place called northern Nevada? Heck, even central Nevada? Oh, and while we're at it: Nevada isn't all desert. There are plenty of forests, mountains, and lakes in our wonderful state.
3. We don't get weirded out by anything.
When you live in Nevada, you kind of get used to "weird". A creepy clown-themed motel in the middle of the desert? Yep, we've got that. Not weird at all. Totally normal, if you ask me. We're even home to places like a
Car Forest and a house made of bottles , too!
4. We definitely believe in ghosts.
It's hard not to be a little superstitious about paranormal entities when you live in a state that is covered in ghost towns. Just ask a Nevadan if they've ever seen a ghost and see what they say.
5. And aliens, too!
Aliens? They definitely exist. When you're state is home to a road called The Extraterrestrial Highway, you'll sometimes find yourself wondering if those "planes" in the sky are really planes at all. They look like Unidentified Flying Objects to me!
6. Trying your luck at a slot machine whenever you come across one.
Although longtime Nevadans aren't huge gamblers (that's for the tourists), we can't help but go a few rounds on the slot machine when we pass one. With slot machines commonly found in gas stations and grocery stores, it can be hard to resist.
7. Stopping whatever you're doing just to watch the sunset.
When your state boasts amazing sunsets like this one, it's considered a crime not to enjoy it. There's no better way to end the day than watching one of these beauties occur.
8. Braving the heat, no matter how hot it is.
Nothing will keep us from enjoying our wonderful outdoors. Hiking in 110 degree weather? No sweat. We'll be sure to bring plenty of water, though.
9. Correcting your pronunciation.
If you say "Nevada" wrong, you WILL be corrected by a Nevadan. Sorry, but we just can't let it slide. If you don't know which of the two pronunciations is the correct one, you're welcome to look it up.
10. Always planning our next adventure!
Nevada is a state for adventurers, and true Nevadans are always planning where they'd like to explore next. No matter how long we've lived here, our love for our beautiful state will never dwindle or die. Nevada is constantly surprising us and we'll never get sick of experiencing what she has to offer!
