Even though some people may not believe in hauntings and ghosts, many do, and these ghost enthusiasts enjoy seeking out the most haunted places to visit. From creaking floorboards, floating orbs, voices, and other scary phenomena, spending the night in a haunted hotel is not for the faint of heart. The Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada is rumored to be the most haunted in the state and is the home to several ghosts.
Built in 1907, the Mizpah Hotel is rumored to have many ghosts roaming about. It is one of the most historic hotels in Nevada and was even featured on an episode of the Travel Channel’s Ghost Hunters.
The hotel was closed in 1999 but was reopened under new owners, Fred and Nancy Cline of the Sonoma, CA Cline Cellars, in August 2011. The newly renovated hotel contains 47 rooms, two restaurants, and a bar.
This historic hotel was once the most luxurious, refined, and elegant hotels in the western United States. Nicknamed the "Grand Old Lady," the Mizpah was the tallest building in Nevada until 1929 and boasted the very first electric elevator west of the Mississippi.

Among the various paranormal phenomena include an old out-of-commission elevator that randomly opens and closes its doors, objects which mysteriously move, and sightings of laughing children who run through the hallways on the fourth floor. The basement is also supposedly haunted by two miners.
The hotel is rumored to be haunted by the mysterious Lady in Red. She is thought to be a prostitute named Rose who was beaten and murdered on the fifth floor by a jealous ex. Another possible story is that Rose was murdered by her husband who found her cheating at the hotel. She is said to haunt the entire fifth floor.
The Lady in Red was said to have been murdered in Room 512 and, as would be expected, the "Lady in Red Suite" remains the most popular room for guests.
Being Nevada, of course, there are slot machines in the lobby.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the Mizpah Hotel has terrified many guests brave enough to stay there. Have you experienced its ghosts or do you know any other haunted hotels in Nevada? Please share your experiences and comments below.
