When’s the last time you hit the trail? With so many great hikes across Nevada, there’s truly always an adventure to be had in our state. Today, we’re focused on a mega hiking trail that stretches all the way from Pyramid Lake in Nevada to the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe in California. You’d obviously need several days to complete the hiking trail in its entirety, but even trekking across a small section of the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail is bound to reward you with an unforgettable experience.
Offering a scenic adventure for both hikers and cyclists, the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail is an amazing hiking trail that starts at Pyramid Lake in Nevada and stretches all the way into California.
The Tahoe Pyramid Trail, or the "TPT", is meant to follow the entire length of the Truckee River. Most of the trail is completed, with only a couple of sections in Nevada that are planned to be constructed in the future.
Once fully completed, the trail will stretch for a whopping 114 miles, boasting incredible scenery the entire way! Using a combination of existing paved and dirt pathways, the trail exists as an endless source of adventure in this beautiful region of Nevada.
On its eastern terminus, the trail winds all the way from Pyramid Lake to Wadsworth. Keep in mind that a permit from the tribal landowners is required to explore this section of the trail. Consisting of 24 miles of mostly compacted dirt, it's most definitely worth the extra effort to explore this gorgeous landscape.
Another stunning section of the trail runs from the Reno-Sparks area to Verdi near the Nevada-California border. Taking hikers through downtown Reno and along the Truckee River multi-use path, this paved stretch is popular among walkers and runners.
Upon entering California from Verdi, the trail winds south towards Lake Tahoe. This section ranges in difficulty and feels a bit more off-the-beaten-path. The Fleish Bridge is a memorable landmark along this region of the TPT.
Finding and staying on the TPT is easy thanks to the hard work of the nonprofit organization that continually maintains it. Check out the official website for more information including in-depth descriptions and current trail conditions.
