Seven Magic Mountains is a large-scale desert art installation in Nevada that's impressed countless visitors since it first appeared on May 11, 2016.
Located near Jean Dry Lake and Interstate 15, it's definitely one of the most unique sights you'll discover in the Silver State. Consisting of seven colorful towers of neon-colored boulders, you simply won't find anything like it anywhere else in the world.
In fact, the art installation was originally scheduled to be on view for just two years, until 2018. Due to its massive popularity, a three-year permit extension was granted by the Bureau of Land Management.
Surrounded by breathtaking Nevada scenery including numerous mountain ranges and vast swaths of desert, the brightly colored towers provide a stark contrast to the natural scenery. It's jarring at first, but beautifully illustrates the artist's attempt to bridge the natural and artificial elements.
The installation is completely free and open to the public. Interpretive signs at the site provide information about the artwork and the artist's vision. If you visit, keep in mind that there are no restroom facilities or other amenities. Bring plenty of water and any other nourishment you may need during your visit.
Seven Magic Mountains has become an iconic outdoor attraction outside of Las Vegas. Don't put off seeing this unique destination any longer. This installation won't be around forever! Visit the Seven Magic Mountains website for more information.
