Stretching for more than 316,000 acres, the Spring Mountains in southern Nevada are full of adventure. This region is absolutely stunning, and you'll get the perfect vantage point of it at the Desert View Overlook.
The overlook is easily accessible via a short, half-mile long trail. The trailhead is located in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, along Deer Creek Road and in between Kyle and Lee Canyons.
Once you get to the trailhead, you'll hop on the wide and paved trail that runs north right along the edge of a ridge. At this point, you'll already have some pretty stellar views of the surrounding wilderness area, but it's nothing compared to the view at the end.
The trail passes through a landscape filled with a myriad of pine trees and shrubs. At an elevation of 8,200-feet, you'll already start to feel like you're on top of the world. You should reach the overlook after just a few minutes of walking.
Once you reach the overlook, you'll be greeted by a sweeping view of the northern Mojave desert, along with the Great Basin Desert in the distance. The view is positively jaw-dropping, and you'll find yourself in complete awe of the beauty of it.
Panels at the overlook provide information about the region's history and geology. In fact, this exact overlook was considered a great vantage point for viewing bomb detonations during the Atomic Era.
Desert View Overlook is one of those must-see places for every Nevadan. After all, you haven't truly experienced the awe-inspiring beauty of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area until you've seen it from here!
