Nevada is a great place to live for all types of people, from solo adventurers to families and retirees. No matter what you’re looking for, you can probably find it here in the Silver State. Nevada’s crime rates are higher than the national average, but that doesn’t make it any less of a great place to live. In fact, Safewise recently released a list of the six safest cities to live in Nevada according to FBI crime data. If you’re looking to move to Nevada, or you already live here and are looking to relocate, these six cities should be on your radar.
According to a recent report from Safewise, Nevada's 6 Safest Cities of 2021 are Henderson (#1), Sparks (#2), Reno (#3), Elko (#4), North Las Vegas (#5), and Las Vegas (#6.)
The report was created by Safewise using FBI crime data. Data from 12 cities in Nevada was submitted to the FBI, and six of those cities met Safewise's criteria for the safest cities in Nevada.
Nevada's crime rate is higher than the national average, but the good news is that both violent and property crime have been on the decline. During the past two years, both Nevada's violent crime rate and property crime rate has decreased by about 12%.
Despite the decrease in crime between 2019 and 2021, Nevadans still reported a higher concern about crime than most of the U.S. 72% of Nevadans believe that crime is on the rise, and 37% of Nevadans say they use some kind of personal safety protection - both of those statistics are higher than the national average.
Henderson was named the safest city in Nevada with a violent crime rate of just 1.7 incidents per 1,000 people. Of the cities listed by Safewise, only Henderson and Elko have lower violent crime rates than the national average (Elko's rate is 3.3. incidents per 1,000 people.)
When it comes to property crime rates, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Reno all have lower rates than the national average. However, Elko and Las Vegas both have property crime rates that are actually above the state rate of 23.2 incidents per 1,000.
