There are some things that are SO worth going out of your way for. Good food is one of them. There’s one restaurant in Nevada that’s located way out in the middle of nowhere; inside of a town that’s not even really a town. However, that doesn’t stop people from traveling hours just to eat there. After all, this place has become legendary among Nevadans for their mouthwatering burgers and small-town hospitality. If you haven’t had the pleasure of eating at this super remote restaurant yet, you’ll want to plan a little trip ASAP. Keep scrolling to see why.
Have you ever been to Middlegate, Nevada? You might've driven right past it at one time and not even known it. That's because this unincorporated community is home to just 17 residents, a single gas station, and not much else. However, it is home to Middlegate Station, and you'll see that it's well worth a stop.
Located along America's Loneliest Highway, Middlegate Station might just be the Old West's last surviving "roadhouse". The rustic restaurant was originally opened in the 19th century as a stop along the Pony Express.
The Pony Express officially ceased operations in 1861, but the Middlegate Station remained. When the Lincoln Highway was constructed right in front of the station, it became a convenient stop for travelers as it was the only gas station for nearly 50 miles in either direction. If it weren't for this little station, Middlegate probably would've been long gone.
In fact, people are known to drive way out into the middle of the remote desert just to eat at this notable restaurant. Boasting friendly service and a quirky atmosphere, it's no surprise that people are mesmerized with this place.
However, it's not just the restaurant's eclectic vibe that draws hungry patrons in. It's the food. Sure, you can go ahead and order up a typical cheeseburger with all the fixings. But that's not what Middlegate Station is famous for.
Instead, you'll want to feast on the restaurant's most iconic menu item: the Middlegate Monster Burger. This thing can intimidate even those with the biggest of appetites, but it's oh-so-delicious and you'll definitely want to try it.
This beast of a burger some with 1 and 1/3 pounds of beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheese, peppers, and olives. Oh, and a gargantuan pile of French fries to top it all off. If you eat it all, you'll walk away with a commemorative t-shirt and an unwavering sense of accomplishment.
Calling Middlegate a "town" may actually be a stretch. However, we have a feeling that people will be stopping here as long as Middlegate Station keeps serving up mouthwatering burgers. Be sure to visit them at 42500 Austin Hwy, Fallon, NV 89406.
