Boonies is a relative term in Nevada. The state is so spread out that pretty much everything is in the boonies. For the sake of this article, I am going to cover 10 remote Nevada towns worth visiting. Don’t be alarmed if your favorite town is missing. This list is by no means inclusive of all towns in Nevada way out in the boonies.
1. This review from A5Boyo on TripAdvisor really says it all: “Jarbidge, Nevada is like a town from a 1950's sci-fi movie: if there was an alien invasion, no one in Jarbidge would know about it for about a week and life would continue as normal."
2. Rachel is in the boonies for obvious reasons. It’s the closest town to the top-secret military base, Area 51. The town’s remoteness along the Extraterrestrial Highway doesn’t stop alien enthusiasts from visiting, and you should too.
3. Cal Nev Ari is a remote Nevada town worth visiting if you’re in the market for remote Nevada towns. The entire town is for sale for a cool $8 million. Your purchase would include a casino, restaurant and airport.
5. Tucked in the foothills of the Ruby Mountains, Lamoille is a remote Nevada town that's the gateway to the absolutely breathtaking Lamoille Canyon. This entire area is like a party for your eyes and your soul.
5. Baker is the gateway to Great Basin National Park. Biff Henderson of the former Late Show with David Letterman once said of Baker: “It's quiet, peaceful, beautiful and the people are friendly."
6. Coaldale is an eerily zombie-apocalypse-like ghost town thanks to its abandoned mid-50s architecture and left-behind belongings. Anyone need a lawnmower? The photo opportunities here are priceless.

7. Thanks to plagues of biblical proportions, Metropolis rose and fell faster than a speeding bullet (1910 to 1936). Located north of Wells in Elko County, the failed wheat farming district is fun to explore.
8. Middlegate is so small and remote that when its popular shoe tree fell, only 17 residents heard the sound. There's a new shoe tree now as well as the delicious Middlegate Station, a restaurant known for its Monster Burger.
9. Nestled beneath the beautiful Toiyobe Mountain Range, Austin is one of a few remote Nevada towns along the “Loneliest Road in America.” There’s shopping, dining, historic churches, the quirky Stokes Castle and nearby biking and hiking trails.
10. With its mural project and acclaimed restaurants, Ely is having a resurgence. It’s located far from the hustle and bustle from Vegas but close to several attractions like the Nevada Northern Railway.
