Hiding in an area between the La Madre Mountains to the north and Calico Hills to the west, Red Spring Picnic Area is the perfect spot to visit when you feel like escaping into nature.
Located within Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Red Springs is a great alternative for when you don't feel like dealing with the crowds of the park's more popular areas. And since it's not located along the Scenic Loop Drive, there is no charge to visit the area.
The Red Spring Picnic Area is a seriously breathtaking destination. It boasts fantastic views of red sandstone cliffs, the desert ridge, and looming limestone mountains. Filled with wildlife and desert plants, this is Nevada scenery at its finest!
Equipped with a fully-accessible, half-mile boardwalk, exploring Red Spring makes for an easygoing outing. Starting in the picnic area, you can follow the boardwalk as it switchbacks up the hillside and around marshy grassland.
The name Red Spring refers to an actual spring that's fed year-round by snow and rainfall. The permanent water source makes it possible for a variety of plants and wildlife to call this important area home.
The picnic area itself consists of one group shelter with approximately eight tables, along with numerous shaded benches where you can stop and take it all in. You really couldn't ask for a more scenic spot to enjoy a family picnic or quiet stroll!
