What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of fall? It might be apple cider, cool weather, or beautiful fall foliage. Also high on the list is probably one thing in particular—pumpkins! During the fall season, pumpkins seem to be everywhere we look. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spiced lattes. Pumpkin-flavored everything, really. Well, there’s one town in Nevada that seems to really love pumpkins. Every year they throw a giant pumpkin-themed festival and it’s as if the entire town turns into a pumpkin wonderland. If you love this seasonal delicacy, then a visit to this festival is a must. Take a look:
Every year in October the town of Sparks transforms into a magical pumpkin wonderland with the annual Pumpkin Palooza festival. If you're looking for a festive way to spend the day then look no further. This is a one-of-a-kind festival you don't want to miss.
Pumpkin Palooza is an annual celebration of all things pumpkin. This year the festival will take place on October 21 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in Victorian Square. This popular event has gained quite the following over the years and it's proven itself to be a time-honored tradition for locals of the Reno-Sparks area.
Named a "Top Fall Event" last year by Food Network Magazine, you'll find that this festival is packed with plenty of good ol' fashioned fun that the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to dress up in your Halloween costume for the family costume parade!
One of the event's highlights is the famous Pumpkin Derby. This unique race is open to anyone and everyone. Build your own "pumpkin racer" and compete against others for the Grand Championship Trophy.
The registration fee is just $10 to enter the race. Participants are encouraged to pick a creative theme and have fun with the design of their racer. People take building their pumpkin racer seriously so be sure to read up on how to build the perfect derby car beforehand!
The best part about this festival is that all proceeds go toward the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living which was formed in 1982 by a group of people with disabilities. They believe that each person, regardless of the severity of their disability, has the potential to grew and share the joys and responsibilities of our society. Have fun and support a good cause! This event is a must.
