We’re all familiar with that feeling of excitement that comes with a layer of fresh snow on the ground. There’s something about that fluffy white stuff that just never fails to make us want to be a kid building snowmen again! However, you’re really never too old to play in the snow and there’s the perfect destination in Nevada for when you get that urge. This public sledding hill has become a popular spot among families looking to induldge in hours of snow play. Not only is this hill surrounded by the most stunning winter scenery, but it’s also completely free! We definitely love a winter attraction that can entertain us on the cheap, so read on to learn all about it.
It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to take the family out for a day of snow-filled fun. There are plenty of places in Nevada where you can sled, tube, and play for free—you just have to know where to look for them!
The public sledding hill located at Spooner Summit is a favorite among Nevada families and for good reason. The free sledding and tubing area is drop dead gorgeous. Located on the eastern side of Lake Tahoe, the hill is surrounded by the most breathtaking mountain scenery.
Additionally, this region of Tahoe is never short on snow. In fact, this hill is the highest in elevation out of all sledding hills near Carson City, and it boasts the perfect conditions for hours upon hours of snow play.
You'll find the hill located right at the junction of Highways 50 and 28, just south of Spooner Lake. Free parking is available at the base of the hill, but be aware that there are no bathrooms or trash facilities nearby. You'll need to pack anything you could possibly need with you for your day of fun, and be sure to pack out what you bring in.
The hill itself has something for everybody to enjoy. The section near the top is steeper and makes for a faster, more thrilling ride down the slope. Sections near the bottom of the hill are more mild, making it perfect for young kids.
This public sledding hill boasts everything we love about wintertime fun. The thrill of rushing down a hill with nothing but a sled between you and the ground is always an absolute blast, for both kids and kids at heart.
As you'd expect, the hill's close proximity to Lake Tahoe and Carson City makes it very popular among both locals and travelers. However, its family-friendly slopes are well worth braving the crowds in order to make some unforgettable winter memories.
