The Nevada State Railroad Museum has long been a favorite among train enthusiasts for their dedication to preserving Nevada’s rail history, but they also host some of the dreamiest train rides the state has to offer. Make yourself cozy on this open-car train ride and create some unforgettable memories your whole family will love. This is one experience you don’t want to skip.
Located in Carson City, the Nevada State Railroad Museum makes for a wonderful outing for families looking for something unique to do. Not only is there some amazing history to uncover here, but they also offer dreamy train rides through the Nevada countryside!
The museum is dedicated to educating the community about Nevada's fascinating railroad history as you'll see through their collection of artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia. However, nothing beats experiencing this history firsthand through a wonderful train ride.
They offer train rides every weekend from May through September, with select dates available in October, November, and December. These 30-minute train rides will take you around the immediate area on one of their restored passenger or motor cars, and it's simply lovely.
Riding along in an open-air car pulled by a historic steam engine is a delightful experience that your whole family will love. During the ride, volunteers will be there to answer your questions and provide you with the history behind the specific piece of equipment you're riding on.
Other restored cars you'll have the opportunity to ride on is a 1926 Edwards Motor Car and a McKeen Motor Car (the only one still in existence out of just 152 that were built.) Each piece of equipment is truly unique and will lead you on a charming ride around the museum!
Each ride departs from the Wabuska Depot at the museum property and traverses a 2,000-foot radial loop around the grounds. It's not very often you get to experience the gorgeous landscape like this and each ride is bound to leave an impression.
The cost for rides can vary depending on which motorcar you end up on, but are generally $6-$8 for adults, $3-$4 to children, and free for kids under 3. If you're a museum member, you will enjoy half-price train rides. Don't miss out on a ride through history this season, and visit the museum's website to learn more.
