I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
We are all for progress, innovation, and creativity, but there is also so much comfort in consistency, simplicity, and longevity. Sometimes a step back in time and a dose of something old-fashioned is just what we need, like a warm hug from a familiar friend. This old-school restaurant in Winnemucca, Nevada, is just such a place, serving up original family favorites with a side of nostalgia.
The darling town of Winnemucca is chock full of history, a lovely destination for a day trip and the perfect place to fill up on some old family recipes, hearty portions, and friendly service at The Griddle.
The restaurant here in Winnemucca is the original building where The Griddle has been welcoming hungry guests since 1948. From the sign to the log-cabin-style exterior to the booths and counter inside, very little has changed since the restaurant’s opening.
In the early 1960s, the owners truly perfected a home-cooked breakfast and the restaurant gained a reputation for "Good Cookin'."

Made from scratch using an original family recipe, there is nothing “basic” about this breakfast basic. A stack of Dad’s Hot Cakes is served with a side of real maple syrup and a scoop of history.
Most of what is served at The Griddle, such as Auntie Mo’s Spuds, is made using old family recipes and customers are encouraged to ask about the stories attached to them.
The restaurant also makes fresh, homemade granola which can be enjoyed on its own, with yogurt, or cooked into the batter of a mouthwatering Fruit and Granola Waffle. In the mood for something baked, but a bit more savory? Try the large buttermilk biscuit, made from scratch and topped with sausage gravy.
As proudly noted on the Lunch menu, you won’t find any frozen or pre-made burgers here. All burger patties are made in-house from fresh ground beef without any preservatives or additives.
Lunch is not just burgers, although they are hard to pass up. The Griddle’s signature sandwich, Golden Gate - a turkey creation on parmesan and red pepper-crusted sourdough - is just one of a good selection of flavorful sandwiches to choose from.
Take your old-school meal to the height of nostalgia by grabbing a seat at the counter.
The Griddle is open for breakfast and lunch only. In addition to the original Winnemucca location, you can find good old-fashioned home cooking at four other locations as well. Check out the menu and locations on The Griddle website, and keep up with news and daily specials on The Griddle Facebook page. Have you enjoyed a meal at this old-school eatery in Nevada?
