Nevada is the most mountainous U.S. state, so it comes as no surprise that we have many choices when it comes to selecting a mountain town to visit this summer. Some of these towns have more attractions than others, whereas some are much more scenic.
Of all the mountain towns in Nevada, let’s take a look at 10 of our favorites:
Mount Charleston, located in Clark County, is a small mountain town that's named after nearby Mount Charleston (Charleston Peak) - the county's highest point. Mount Charleston is known for its incredible views and amazing hiking trails.
This small mountain town, with a population of 105, is located in Elko County at the foot of the Ruby Mountains. The Ruby Mountains is Nevada's wettest mountain range. Lamoille experiences all four seasons and is very beautiful during the summer.

Ely is the county seat of White Pine County and was established as a stagecoach station along the Pony Express and Central Overland Route. A major attraction in Ely is the Nevada Northern Railway Museum.

Incline Village is located in Washoe County and offers incredible views of Lake Tahoe. This small village is best known for its wealthy residents/visitors and its spectacular mountain retreats.
Tonopah, the county seat of Nye County, is located between Las Vegas and Reno. This historic mountain town offers several recreational activities such as bird watching, hiking and mountain biking. Because Tonopah is far enough away from the bright lights of bigger cities, it's the perfect place for stargazing.

Carson City is the capital of Nevada and was once a hub for the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Most of Carson City's residents live on the eastern edge of the Carson Range.

The charming town of Genoa is located in Douglas County. Founded in 1851, Genoa is Nevada's oldest town. One of the town's best-known attractions is the Mormon Station State Historic Park.
Virginia City, the county seat of Storey County, was the site of the first major U.S. silver discovery (1859). There are many well-known attractions in this historic town, including the Silver Queen Hotel, Piper's Opera House, Old Washoe Club, Mackay Mansion and the Mark Twain Museum. It's believed that Virginia City is one of the most haunted towns in the U.S.
