I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
There are several stories and claims regarding the invention, but hamburgers have been served in this country since at least the beginning of the 1900s. Today, they may be the most iconic American food, and certainly one of the most popular. They come in various forms, from tiny sliders to a third bun to creative toppings, and we can’t get enough. If you are in the mood for a game-changer, try to wrap your mind, and mouth, around some of Reno, Nevada’s biggest burgers.
Beefy’s Reno, located just south of the Midtown District, is a local favorite with unbelievable burgers that you almost cannot fit in a photograph, let alone take an actual bite of!
This historic dining spot opened with the current owners in 2014 and hand-prepares food using high-quality, fresh ingredients. Combine this with a charming, cozy, old-school ambiance and friendly service, and it is no wonder people keep coming back.
The name of this monstrous burger creation kind of gives it away, but here is what makes this impossible-to-bite sandwich what it is -- a cheddar cheeseburger topped with a grilled chicken breast and Swiss cheese, mushrooms, pastrami and bacon, grilled onions, a second burger with pepper jack cheese, and barbecue sauce. Oh, and an onion ring under the bun.
You had better be hungry, and up for a challenge, when you order a Jacob’s Ladder burger. Like the Biblical ladder it is named for, this burger reaches for the sky with four burger patties, four slices of cheese, and four slices of bacon, with some grilled onions and thousand island dressing to push it over the edge.
Clearly, any burger on the menu is a meal in itself, but like any self-respecting burger joint, there are some epic sides on the menu, too, including tater tots, French fries (and Poutine!), Mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini, onion rings, and fried pickles.
The Onion Burger is just one patty piles with three types of onions, including fried shoestring onions, and cheese - and it is still massive!
Did we mention that there are hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken wings, and breakfasts on the menu? There are, and they are just as creative as the burgers.
It is no surprise that you can get a creamy old-fashioned shake, malt, or float to go with your burger. But the flavors are not typical at all. You can order vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry if you just need a classic, but with options like lavender, chai, almond, rose water, blueberry, and maple bacon, why not branch out a bit?
Speaking of drinks, Beefy’s has a selection of over 40 beers, including lagers, ales, stouts, ambers, sours, and Bourbon barrel-aged brews.
Beefy’s doesn’t rest on its standard menu, but stretches the concept of the hamburger even more with seasonal offerings like a Lobster burger, with all the standard toppings, pepper jack cheese, lobster scampi, and a lobster tail to top it all off.
Burgers are not the only things that come with toppings at Beefy’s. You can get Garlic Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, Parmesan Herb Garlic Fries, and yes, Pizza Fries.
Apparently, Beefy’s is willing to customize anything on the menu, whether you want pepperoni on your bacon-wrapped hot dog, or deep fried jalapeños on your fries, or nearly anything on your burger, it’s possible.
Now that Reno, Nevada’s biggest burgers are on your radar, what are you waiting for? If you have had the pleasure of trying Beefy’s, we would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
