I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Nevada has so many beautiful places and scenic byways to enjoy, it’s hard to choose just one for a great day trip. If you are looking for a gorgeous day in the mountains of Great Basin National Park, the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is perfect. In my experience, a good meal is the best way to fuel up for an epic adventure, so before you enter the park, stop by this hidden gem of a burger spot in Baker, Nevada. You won’t regret it.
This tiny burger joint is located in the Whispering Elms Motel and RV Campground in Baker, Nevada, just east of the entrance to Great Basin National Park.
Toppings are not the only way to customize your burger. Choose from a one-third-pound premium ground beef patty or a one-third-pound ground turkey patty with a “special ‘holiday meal’ vibe.” You can even choose to turn it into a grilled cheese with your choice of bread grilled to a crisp golden yumminess.
Topping choices include options like grilled peppers, grilled pineapple, Ortega chili, cranberry sauce (especially awesome on the turkey burger!), bacon relish, etc., plus several spreads and sauces.

Do not let the size of this little trailer kitchen fool you - the flavors that come out of it are huge!
If burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches sound a bit too heavy, you can always choose a lovely salad or maybe some tacos. The menu changes, so you never know what new flavors you might discover.
Starting out early and not ready for a burger? The breakfasts at 487 Grill are just as amazing as the burgers. Try a breakfast burrito or ‘sammich,’ both perfect for grab-and-go. For something sweet, try the Baker Creek Berry Toast, a thick sourdough French toast with a “creek” of homemade raspberry syrup and vanilla whipped cream.
Or opt for the Bristlecone B&G, fluffy fresh-baked biscuits smothered in mouthwatering sausage gravy. Choose one biscuit as a side, a regular plate of two biscuits, or really fill up with the “big plate” with three open-faced biscuits.
If this is a family trip, the kids will love the “Snake Valley Lil Hiker” quesadilla or the “Milky Way Toast” with dark chocolate sauce, whipped cream ‘clouds,’ and little marshmallow ‘stars.’
Whatever you choose, whether you eat it on the spot or take it with you for the drive, you will be powered up for a gorgeous drive and an epic mountain adventure.
