If there’s one thing we sure of, it’s that the famous Las Vegas Strip is just full of surprises! It’s definitely not all glitz and gambling, that’s for sure. In fact, animal lovers will be pleased to know that there’s a full-on wildlife habitat hidden right in plain sight! Pay it a visit and you’ll enjoy the rare sight of tropical animals right here in the dry desert of Nevada. Check it out:
The Southern Nevada desert is definitely not the place you'd typically expect to contain tropical animals, but that's just what you'll find when you stop by the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino.
Yes, it's true; There's an actual wildlife habitat nestled away in this famous Las Vegas hotel! It may seem like a strange place to view wildlife, but it makes for an adorable, family-friendly photo-op when perusing the bustling Las Vegas Strip.
The Flamingo Habitat is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and it's completely free to visit. How cool is that? Tucked away on the hotel's lush 15-acre grounds, the habitat is a nice respite for when you need a break from the noise and crowds.
The habitat is most famously home to a stunning flock of Chilean flamingos. Their vibrant pink bodies are an absolutely spectacular sight, so be sure to bring your camera. You'll typically spot them chilling by the pool area, balancing perfectly on one leg!
However, flamingoes aren't the only critters the habitat contains. The grounds are also home to Ring Teal ducks, Sacred Ibis, swans, koi fish, and turtles. Rehabilitated parrots also call the habitat home and are available for photographs.
Two brown pelicans joined the habitat in 2012 from a pelican rescue. The daily pelican feedings are definitely a crowd pleaser! Author's Note: Due to the pandemic, the pelican feedings and parrot photos are temporarily closed.
A fun, free, and family-friendly attraction on The Strip? Count us in! Stop by the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel and be sure to see these charming creatures for yourself. More information can be found on the hotel's website .
