The historic town of Goldfield, Nevada is the quintessential ghost town. Originally established in 1902, this former bustling boomtown is still home to a small population. However, an assortment of abandoned structures and equipment are a constant reminder that the town is no longer the prosperous town it once was. The Goldfield High School is one structure that’s worth checking out when you visit the town, especially if you’re a paranormal enthusiast. A visit to this allegedly haunted high school will definitely send some shivers down your spine, so approach with caution!
Goldfield's National Historic District is filled with century-old gems that are worth exploring. However, the Goldfield High School is one of the most impressive—not to mention the creepiest.
With a peak population of 20,000 people, Goldfield was a true boomtown and it was far from your average mining camp. Known as "The World's Greatest Gold Camp", it was comprised of schools, businesses, hotels, and the Esmeralda County Courthouse along with many, many other structures.
The Goldfield High School is a valuable reminder that Goldfield was once a bright and prosperous community. However, it's also probably the most haunted spot in town! Well, allegedly haunted...
Owned by the Goldfield Historical Society, tours and paranormal investigations are regularly held at the dilapidated high school. This gives visitors the rare opportunity to see one of the town's oldest surviving structures like never before.
The school originally opened in 1907, around the peak of Goldfield's prosperity. It may look pretty worn today, but back then the three-story brick structure was definitely an impressive sight. In fact, it was the largest high school in all of Nevada at the time.
The school officially closed its doors in 1952 and has sat mostly empty ever since. One amazing thing is how much of the building is actually still intact, including desks, chairs, and even original chalkboards. The Goldfield Historical Society has worked to restore this stately building since 2008.
Tours of the school are given by appointment only. Although it's a popular spot for paranormal enthusiasts, those with an interest in Nevada history will be just as thrilled to explore this century-old high school. Just be sure to keep your eyes peeled for anything unusual! Learn more about the Goldfield High School and restoration efforts here .
