Nevada is no stranger to petroglyphs but some of the best can be seen in this little-known canyon in the southern region of our state. Located approximately five miles outside of Laughlin is one of the most fascinating treasure troves in all of Nevada—Grapevine Canyon. Some of Nevada's earliest residents called this place home thousands of years ago, and you can view some of the things they left behind to this day.
The canyon can be found within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The start of an easy hiking trail can be found near the parking lot and will lead you right through the heart of this glorious canyon.
As you head into the canyon, you'll notice just how stunning this region is. Inside the canyon you'll find a small desert spring that flows almost all year round. You'll find yourself surrounded by the most stunning sheer rock walls.

The meaning behind the petroglyphs and who created them is unclear even to this day. However, it's well known that the Mojave inhabited this particular region of the canyon and they are assumed to be the ones who created these beautiful carvings.
As you look over these incredible carvings, you'll probably find yourself trying to form a meaning behind them. You'll see art of what looks to be people, animals, spirals, circles, and more. As you continue along the trail, it truly feels as if you're walking back in time.
