It’s one thing to explore Nevada’s ghost towns but have you ever thought about spending the night in one? Few people know the tiny town of Vya even existed. It’s been abandoned for decades with almost nothing to show for the town that it once was. However, its location in the northwestern region of the state makes it a great destination for exploring. There’s even a little log cabin ranch where you can rent a room while you gallivant around the desert. Explore a piece of Nevada that almost nobody knows about when you spend the night at this long-gone ghost town.
Most people don't realize that situated in northwest Nevada, approximately 10 miles east of the California border, are the remnants of a ghost town called Vya.
After all, there isn't much information about Vya concerning how many people lived here or even how it came to be. All we know is that people did in fact live here up until the 1920s when the town was abandoned. Just two buildings remain to remind us of the town: the old Post Office and a library.
However, new life was brought into this quiet ghost town when a working guest ranch opened for visitors. Old Yella Dog Ranch is the perfect place to set up camp while you go about your desert adventures.
The ranch is composed of an inviting 21st century log cabin home which can sleep up to six people and has everything you could need. Surrounded by wide open spaces, the two-story ranch house is perfect for escaping civilization and dwelling in the serene landscape of the desert.
There are two cozy bedrooms that will make you feel right at home. There's even a full kitchen complete with dishes and cookware. You might find yourself wishing you could move in permanently to this dreamy little cabin.
Reservations cost just $60 per night during the summer (per person) and $45 in the winter. And since this is a real working ranch, pets are always welcome.
Don't let the barren quality of this region fool you. There's plenty to keep you occupied during your stay. With the Black Rock Desert located just south and Sheldon National Antelope Refuge located north, there's a lot to explore.
A visit to Old Yella Dog Ranch is bound to be a getaway that you remember for years to come. It's not very often you come across a place to sleep among the remnants of an old ghost town. Vya may be long gone but thanks to this ranch, the town's spirit will live on forever.
You'll find Old Yella Dog Ranch at 82330 County Rd 34, Gerlach, NV 89412. For more information, you can visit their website here.
