Hiding right along Highway 95 in between Hawthorne and Mina is the little town of Luning. Home to just 39 people, it’s easy to miss when you find yourself simply driving through. In fact, many people consider it a ghost town—although, living ghost town is probably a more suitable term. This historic little town doesn’t have a lot in regards to attractions but it IS home to an amazing antique store that’s worth stopping at. The Luning Trading Post is just as quaint on the inside as it looks on the outside, and it brings tons of character to this quiet town.
Luning is a tiny unincorporated town nestled away in Mineral County. Originally founded in 1881 as a town called Deep Wells, this little community is a real historic gem that a surprising amount of people don't even know about.
You'll undoubtedly pass by Luning when you find yourself driving on US 95 since the highway goes right through the humble town. There's not a ton of reasons for visitors to stop and look around except for a few historic buildings. However, there is one seriously amazing reason to park your car and get out: The Luning Trading Post.
This quaint little shop is easy to spot by its bright purple exterior. As the large sign on the front of the building states, they are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
It's certainly hard to categorize Luning Trading Post. Sure, it definitely has the aspects of a typical antique shop, but it's so much more than that. It's simply a treasure trove of unique items in one of Nevada's most unknown towns.
The shop most notably contains a large selection of beautiful rocks. From dazzling geodes to fossilized wood, they make for wonderful souvenirs for you to remember your time in this quiet little town.
Of course, the store's selection of old items is bound to thrill any antique enthusiast. From century-old furniture to trinkets you haven't seen in use for decades, you'll certainly find a few items worthy of taking home.
The store also sells cold beverages, snacks, and hot coffee so be sure to stock up before you hit the road again. Luning Trading Post is a wonderful surprise in this little-known "ghost town", so be sure to stop by this lovely shop the next time you pass through!
