One of the most popular ways to experience this little-known paradise of Aztec sandstone is the Bowl of Fire trail. The Bowl of Fire offers up dramatic scenery that's similar to that of Valley of Fire, but it's much less crowded and instead offers total peace and quiet.
To find the Bowl of Fire, take Lakeshore Road from the west entrance of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. You'll then turn onto Northshore Road and drive for approximately 16 miles. You'll find the trailhead around two miles down a dirt road that branches off of Northshore called Callville Washington N. Road.
The trail itself is rated as moderate and stretches for nearly nine miles. It's an out-and-back trail with some steep areas, so prepare accordingly. This hike is best done in cooler weather since there are no shaded areas on the trail.
One you set off on the trail, you'll be led northwest into the area that's officially known as the Bowl of Fire. Trust us, you'll know when you see it. The "bowl" is filled with vibrant rock formations in all shapes and sizes, ranging from massive caves to smooth, rolling wave-like structures. It's simply gorgeous.
