Everybody knows Lake Tahoe is breathtaking during the fall season, but if you're looking for a lesser-known destination that's just as gorgeous then Spooner Lake is the perfect choice. Located near Glenbrook just east of Tahoe, this is a wonderful time of year to visit this beautiful lake.
During the autumn season, Spooner Lake and the surrounding region explode with delightful fall colors. Located within Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, this area is great for a tranquil experience surrounded by Nevada's natural beauty.
Once at the lake, you can set off on the 2.5-mile loop trail that takes you all the way around the lake. The easygoing hike is more of a nature walk, so you can take your time soaking up the area's stunning fall beauty.
This time of year, the lodgepole pines and other regional trees boast the most amazing and fiery fall colors. As you continue along the trail, you'll find yourself completely immersed in bright shades of yellow, orange, and maroon.
The hike is almost entirely flat and contains plenty of informational signage along the way, making it great for families and beginning hikers. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife including an abundance of waterfowl that call the lake home.
If you feel like extending your time in this gorgeous landscape, you can always use the Spooner Lake Loop to jump onto the longer Marlette Lake Trail. Otherwise, you can simply plop on a bench and enjoy the colorful foliage located along the water's edge.
The start of the Spooner Lake Loop Trail can be found close to the parking area. Keep in mind that State Parks require a $10 fee per vehicle ($8 for state residents.) Alternatively, you can park at the Spooner Summit trailhead area which adds a bit of distance but costs just $1.
