Nevada is pretty famous for extraterrestrial-related occurrences. Whether you believe in them or not, there’s no denying they have become an important part of our state’s culture. “The UFO Capital of the World” is even located right here in Nevada. This small town may not look like much, but it’s become pretty famous for extraterrestrial activity. UFO enthusiasts flock to the town, hoping to get just a glimpse of something from another world.
Located off of Nevada's famous Extraterrestrial Highway is the small town of Rachel.
The sign that greets you states "Welcome to Rachel, Nevada. Population: Humans 'Yes', Aliens '?'" They are well aware of their reputation as one of the best places to spot a UFO. It's a popular tourist spot for earthlings with an interest in all things alien-related.
The town is located in the Sand Spring Valley in the southern region of Nevada.
Rachel was established not that long ago, back in 1973. In its heyday, the town was home to approximately 500 residents. However, many people left when the nearby mine closed in 1988. Most of the people who live here are retirees if they don't work at the town's one running business.
Today, the only remaining business in the town is the Little A'Le'Inn Restaurant and Bar.
The owners of this kitschy eatery welcome visitors to the town all year long, and will gladly divulge about the latest alien sightings or activity. Be sure to pick something up at their small gift shop inside the restaurant. And don't forget to take a picture with the alien outside!
This quaint diner is almost like any other small town eatery, except it's completely decked out in alien decor.
Indulge in their famous "Alien Burger" while checking out the UFO-related photos covering the walls. There are usually locals hanging out in the restaurant who surely have some interesting stories to share with you.
There's even an inn if you find that you'd like to spend the night (since it's easier to spot extraterrestrial activity at night time).
This place really feels like the middle of nowhere...probably because it is. There's no TV reception and the only public phone requires a calling card. However, that's all part of Rachel's strange charm.
Rachel has been a popular destination for UFO fans for decades because of its close proximity to the one and only Area 51.
Rachel is the town closest to Area 51. If you drive down the highway at night, there's a good chance you might just see some unexplainable lights in the night sky. There's been hundreds of extraterrestrial sightings in the area. If you're looking to spot a UFO, then Rachel is your best bet.
Be sure to stop by this Area 51 memorial...which is actually a mailbox.
The mailbox was originally thought to belong to Area 51 when it actually belonged to one of the local ranchers. However, that didn't stop people from doing weird things to his mailbox like shooting it or leaving strange artifacts. The rancher eventually invested in a bulletproof mailbox, which has since been stolen (or taken by aliens?) and replaced by a regular mailbox.
In some ways, Rachel is like any other small Nevada town.
Not a lot goes on in this sleepy village, but you sure won't forget the time spent here. Oh, and you might even witness something "otherworldly". It's a must-visit place if you have any sort of interest in extraterrestrials.
