We start this epic road trip by heading towards Northeastern Nevada and the gorgeous Ruby Mountain region. There, you’ll find a gem in the Nevada landscape in the form of the Lamoille Canyon. Start your morning with breathtaking views as you travel town the scenic byway off of the Lamoille Highway.
From the Byway, head towards the historic town of Elko to visit the Northeastern Nevada Museum. This state-of-the-art museum is home to over 20,000 square feet of wildlife, historical, and art exhibits!

Only fifteen minutes from the Coffee Mug, you will find the California Trail Interpretive Center along Highway 80. Stop in for insights into the journey embarked upon by 250,000 people during the 1800s as they risked everything to set out for California. It’s a wonderful and educational stop like no other.
Staying on Highway 80 and heading west, you will come to the Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum. The historic building acts as a time capsule for Battle Mountains rich past. Walking around, you will feel as if you’ve stepped back in time to the days of the American pioneer.
As you head further west, get excited to view one of the most intricate and remarkable art collections in the United States! Just off the shoulder of I-80 is Thunder Mountain Monument, an outdoor art collection first assembled by artist Frank Van Zant beginning in 1969.
Wander over five acres of incredible art pieces with more than 200 sculptures focusing on the Native American experience. Thunder Mountain Monument officially became a Nevada State Historic Site in 1992 and is partially open to the public and for self-guided tours.
Driving south along I-80, come across a whimsically pleasant spot known as Lover's Lock Plaza. Located in Lovelock, Nevada, this darling little town is home to a heartwarming tradition.
Over the years, folks have placed about 1,000 locks along their linking chains, symbolizing everlasting love. It’s a sweet way to end your Nevada road trip, and a wonderful way to remember the good times shared.
