When you feel like going somewhere far from the crowds, a visit to Echo Canyon State Park near Pioche is just what you need. This remote preserve in far eastern Nevada offers year-round opportunities for outdoor fun and adventure.
The park is the perfect place to camp, hike, and explore to your heart's content. At the center of the park is Echo Canyon Reservoir, a 65-acre body of water that's ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming.
If you enjoy spotting wildlife, you'll find that you have plenty of opportunities to do so at Echo Canyon. The reservoir alone is home to a variety of waterfowl, like mallards, teals, and herons. Looking up, you'll spot eagles, hawks, owls, and vultures flying between the canyon walls.
As you can imagine, this tranquil park makes a fantastic camping destination. The park's north campground consists of 33 campsites that are open on a first-come, first-served basis. There's also an RV campground with 20 full hook-up sites.
When you feel like stretching your legs and doing some exploring, the Ash Canyon trail will lead you straight into the park's backcountry. It's a 2.5-mile trek that climbs to the valley rim before descending into Ash Canyon.
