Galena Creek Regional Park is a hidden gem along the Mt. Rose Highway. The picturesque park is absolutely beautiful and exudes a sense of peace and quiet. It's the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and just take in Nevada's natural beauty.
The park is home to an abundance of hiking trails, but one of our favorites is the main 1.2-mile nature trail. The short and easy hike is perfect for hikers of all ages and leads you on a relaxing journey through the park's beautiful forest.
The hike is lovely any time of year, but especially during the fall. It's during this time that the region is shrouded in the most beautiful fall colors, including eye-catching shades of yellow.
The trail follows along Galena Creek right at the base of Mt. Rose. The creek drains the southeast slopes of the 10,776-foot high mountain and crosses under Highway 431 before flowing into Pleasant Valley. As you stroll beside it, you can't help but appreciate the epic journey the creek takes, starting at the very tippy-top of Mt. Rose.
Along the way, you'll cross a multitude of quaint footbridges which show off the creek's splendid beauty. With only the sound of the rippling creek and flittering of birds, this place truly feels like a natural oasis.
You really couldn't ask for a better place to casually stroll through the woods. Along with boasting incredible views, the trail is marked with 18 signposts which contain information about the ecology of the surrounding area. This means you can learn all about this drop-dead-gorgeous region while you explore it.
The nature trail is the perfect introduction to this lovely park. If you'd like to up the ante, all you have to do is hop on one of the more strenuous trails the park provides.
