It’s hard to stay indoors when there is so much adventure to be had outdoors in our state. However, there are definitely some fascinating places to visit when you feel like chilling inside for the day. This discovery museum is a great example. Not only is this place filled with amazing information concerning our state, but it’s pretty much a giant playground for kids as well. You could easily spend hours discovering all that this museum has to offer, so add this to your list of rainy day activities and check it out soon.
Located in Reno, The Discovery (also known as the Terry Lee Wells Discovery Museum) is an awesome place to spend some time learning new things and having fun with family and friends.
The Discovery first opened in 2011 and has since then used an array of hands-on galleries and exhibitions to encourage both young and old to take an interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Yes, it's educational...but it's also a ton of fun.
At 67,000-square-feet, the museum is absolutely massive. Be sure to plan plenty of time to see everything it contains! Although the informational exhibits are certainly fascinating, everybody's real favorite is the hands-on stuff.
Climb up to the clouds on the 45-foot-tall cloud climber in the middle of the museum. Believe it or not, this massive structure represents Nevada's water cycle. Although, you'll probably be most focused on the "having fun" part of the cycle as you climb up and down this eccentric play structure.
Truckee Connects is another favored exhibit that focuses on a regional natural attraction—the Truckee River. Meant to act as a working representation of the river, this exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to learn about how the river flows from the depths of Lake Tahoe all the way to the shores of Pyramid Lake.
The Nevada Stories gives visitors another chance to learn more about our wonderful state. Featuring stories of early Nevada, visitors can uncover buried artifacts, discover hidden minerals, and work on the transcontinental railroad with this fascinating section of the museum.
It doesn't matter how old or young you are. There's fun for everyone at The Discovery in Reno. Allow yourself to be filled with wonder and plan a little field trip to this one-of-a-kind discovery museum.
Address: 490 S Center St, Reno, NV 89501 .
