The long, winding and breathtaking Colorado River lends its beauty to every state it touches, including the state of Nevada! As warmer days heat up, seek out the Colorado River’s many fun things to do! From fishing to swimming and plenty in between, you’ll be sure to find it along Nevada’s Colorado River.
With the river covering 1,450 miles, you’ll need to know just where to go to get the most out of this natural flowing water.
The river begins in Colorado and continues to Lake Mead in Nevada, before heading south of the border to Mexico.
A wonderful place to experience the peaceful side of the river is by visiting the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area . Established in 1991 and opened to the public five years later, the water playground has been attracting visitors ever since!
Please note that there is an entrance fee to the recreation area and that seasonal hours may vary.
Head towards the Nevada-California border to experience two miles of beaches and incredible shorelines!
At the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area, expect clear and refreshingly cool waters coming downstream from the Davis Dam.
You will be able to see plenty of wildlife, too! Many native birds, like herons, geese, hummingbirds, and roadrunners call this rich natural area home. Take a closer look! Bring binoculars and a camera because you never know what you might find.
There are many ways to get into the water, including boating. Bring the family vessel or your jet ski to take advantage of the two-lane boat ramp from the man-made lagoon just off the river.
There’s plenty of paved parking as well.
Kayaking the Big Bend area is a must! You’ll be sure to see many fellow kayakers dipping oars into the waters of the Colorado River lagoon. If you want to experience the tranquil lagoon at its finest, then kayaking is the perfect way to go.
Spend a wonderful day on this beachy paradise! Soak up the sun, water, and sand and you’re sure to feel relaxed.
The Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area has picnic areas when your posse gets hungry, and bathrooms as well.
Want to stay awhile? There are campgrounds to accommodate many staying styles, whether you choose an RV or tent. Hikers will be happy and busy with four miles of trails around the park.
Pets are allowed if kept on a leash (no longer than six feet). They’re sure to enjoy the beaches, too!
Cool off at this hidden lagoon in Laughlin and experience the Colorado River in a fantastic way. Take a dip at the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area and soak up the fun in this Nevada oasis!
