Most people who visit northwestern Nevada put all their focus on Lake Tahoe. While that lake is certainly one of the most beautiful in the nation, don’t overlook nearby Pyramid Lake. At 27 miles long and 11 miles wide, it’s quite large, but it’s small in comparison to ancient Lake Lahontan, the massive lake that once covered all of Nevada – of which Pyramid Lake is a remnant. This lake is entirely inside the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation, but it’s open to the public. On your way to the lake, you should stop at the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum and Visitor Center! This is possibly the best visitor center in Nevada and you will love it. Read on to learn more about it.
If you're on your way to Pyramid Lake or are just passing through the area and looking for things to do in Nevada, don't miss a stop at the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum and Visitor Center in Nixon.
You'll be amazed by all you learn here. The exhibits are well-organized, interesting, and informative, and there are docents on hand to answer any questions you may have along the way.
Outside of the visitor center, you can check out several art installations that further demonstrate the values and culture of this particular group of Native Americans.
You'll love visiting this very cool visitor center. After your visit, you'll know so much more about the Paiute people, which is something that you can further reflect upon while you travel and recreate on their land.
