However, the cantaloupe crops were kept alive in this region of Nevada thanks to a group of Chinese immigrant families. Nevada's famous cantaloupes experienced a revival after the Great Depression and they continue to be one of our most treasured crops to this day.
This unique festival was created by Fallon locals who wanted to celebrate the region's Heart of Gold cantaloupes in the 1980s. Over the past three decades, it's become one of the most beloved agricultural events in the state in which families travel from far and wide to attend.
