Hiding out in the Amargosa Valley, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is one of Nevada's greatest hidden gems. Seeing it is a must for any nature lover, and it's easily accessible via the refuge's unique boardwalk trail system.
Ash Meadows is definitely one of the must unique landscapes our state has to offer. The park is truly like a desert oasis, complete with abundant trees, foliage, ponds, and wildlife. This refuge may be lesser-known among non-Nevadans, but it's internationally recognized as one of the most important wetlands in the world.
Preserving the wetlands is of utmost importance, so the park created three distinct boardwalk trails which are perfect for traversing the one-of-a-kind landscape without damaging it.
Each of the boardwalks boast spectacular views of the wetlands and they all offer up something unique. The Crystal Boardwalk is perhaps the most popular since it leads you straight to the refuge's most iconic feature: a gorgeous Caribbean-blue spring which produces 1,800 gallons of water per minute.
However, the Point of Rocks boardwalk is equally entrancing. Leading you through groves of mesquite trees, the boardwalk takes you right to Kings Pool. This beautiful crystal-blue pool is known to be home to pupfish, an ancient species of fish that exists only in Ash Meadows.
Lastly, the third boardwalk takes you straight to a historic stone cabin that was built by a man named Jack Longstreet. Stunning desert scenery surrounds it, including another boiling spring pool
Each boardwalk hike is extremely easy to traverse and considered wheelchair accessible. Ranging from just .2 too .9-miles in length, they offer up short and sweet adventures that are bound to leave an impression.
