Straddling the Nevada-California border is an underrated lake that is pure bliss during summer. No, we’re not talking about that lake. This little-known gem doesn’t get as much attention as it should. Perhaps that’s because the wildly popular Lake Tahoe is located just north. However, you’ll quickly find that this blue water lake boasts all sorts of unique features. Escape Tahoe’s crowds this summer and head south to the utterly gorgeous Topaz Lake. This wonderful place may just become your new favorite summer destination.
If you follow the Nevada-California border south from Lake Tahoe, you'll come across a little gem of a lake that also occupies both states. It's easy for people to overlook Topaz Lake for its more well-known neighbor to the north, but you'll be remiss if you do.
Topaz Lake is located at the northern end of the Antelope Valley. It can best be described as a paradise for recreation lovers. In fact, this may just become your new favorite summer destination.
Boasting 25 miles of perfectly serene shoreline, this is Nevada at its very best. We like our recreation areas to be peaceful and quiet, and that's exactly what you'll get at Topaz Lake.
At approximately 2,500 acres, the man-made lake is actually rather large. The most popular activity here is fishing since the lake calls itself "Home of the Trophy Trout". The lake is stocked with plenty of trophy rainbow and brown trout ranging from four to eight pounds (at least).
Of course, there are plenty of activities to be enjoyed on the lake if fishing isn't your thing. Spend the afternoon kayaking or sailing around the vibrant blue waters, all while soaking in the beauty of the western Nevada landscape.
You won't believe how incredibly beautiful the water is. If you find that you just can't pull yourself away, Topaz Lake Park contains 15 hookup sites for RVs and more than 40 camp sites. You'll definitely need a few days to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonders of this splendid area.
This area of Nevada is almost as remote as it can get. Lodging and dining options are scarce, but the Topaz Lodge is a good option if you'd like a solid home-base in between lake adventures.
Situated right next to the lake, you'll find an awesome little restaurant inside along with cozy rooms and even a casino to keep you entertained (it is Nevada, after all). There's really not much else you could need in this little slice of paradise!
