Fortunately for us, our state is chock full of picturesque scenic drives that pack a huge punch when it comes to stunning settings. Gas up your engines and buckle up, because these six roads boast some of the most breathtaking windshield views that Nevada has to offer.
This 25 mile long scenic drive takes you from Reno to Lake Tahoe, boasting unparalleled views of the Washoe Valley and the glorious peaks of the Sierra Nevadas. The drive follows State Highway 431 in its entirety. The road gains elevation quickly as it twists and turns around numerous mountain sides. You'll be led to an elevation of 8,900-feet high as you reach the Mt. Rose Summit. This is a thrilling drive that is sure to please any adventurer.
The Valley of Fire State Park Scenic Byway stretches for just 8 miles, but it's widely regarded as the most beautiful and popular drive in the Silver State. This short drive leads you through the jaw-dropping setting of Valley of Fire State Park. This road is truly a photographer's dream come true. You've likely seen many pictures of this stretch of road, but nothing compares to experiencing the incredibly scenery for yourself.
Lovingly referred to as the "Grand Canyon of Nevada", Lamoille Canyon is a destination that should be on everybody's bucket list. Even if you're just driving along Interstate 80, you'll witness some truly breathtaking views of the canyon landscape. The short 12 mile drive winds through the Ruby Mountains, rewarding drivers with amazing views of both mountains and canyon. The road totally immerses you in the region's natural beauty.
The Rainbow Canyon Scenic drive is approximately 20 miles long and begins in Caliente, ending in the ghost town of Elgin. Traffic is usually light on this road, creating the perfect environment for appreciating the remote beauty of Rainbow Canyon. Here you'll witness all sorts of colorful rock formations along the steep walls of the canyon.
The Clover Valley Scenic Drive takes you through a little-known valley that few locals are even aware of. The 16 mile drive is located right outside of Ely and leads you through the lush landscape known as Clover Valley. The valley is one of the few agricultural areas in the state. The vast Humboldt Mountain Range acts as a beautiful backdrop to this scenic drive.
US Highway 50 ("The Loneliest Highway In America") is infamously known for being long and boring. If you ever find yourself driving along Highway 50, consider taking a detour onto State Highway 722 which offers fantastic views of the Desatoya Mountains and Smith Creek Valley. The beautiful landscape is a welcome diversion from the flat and endless Highway 50.
