There are tons of amazing places to eat in Nevada. It’s impossible to name them all, so I tried to pinpoint neighborhood restaurants from all over the state with food so good you’ll be back for seconds.
1. B.J. Bull Bakery – 208 Idaho St., Elko
This beloved Elko restaurant serves freshly baked, hot pasties. Considered the original meal of miners, these stuffed treats are basically like a hot pocket on steroids. You can also get a freshly baked fruit pie. Yes, please!
2. Cafe Del Rio – 394 S C St., Virginia City
This popular restaurant is situated in a historic building that was formerly a grocery store and rooming house. The authentic southwest cuisine is prepared from scratch using fresh, quality ingredients. Guacamole fans won't be disappointed at Cafe Del Rio. Its homemade and delicious.
3. Cowboy’s Café – 1679 U.S. Highway 395 N., Minden
Often crowded (what can you do, this place is that good), Cowboy's Cafe serves comfort food fit for a hungry cowboy! Good sized portions will fill you right up. Cowgirls are welcome too.
4. Griddle – 460 W. Winnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca
With a long history and a pioneering spirit, the Griddle is all about the most important meal of the day, breakfast. Don't worry, they serve lunch and dinner too. Come hungry and be sure to check out their daily special.
5. Johnny Mac's – 842 S. Boulder Hwy., Henderson
Located in a strip mall, this is one of many Henderson residents' favorite neighborhood restaurants. Everything is delicious, but the wings get high praise. Between the food and the friendly atmosphere, Johnny Mac's is the type of restaurant that creates lifelong customers.
6. JT's Basque Bar & Dining Room – 1426 U.S. Highway 395 N., Gardnerville
Friendly and family owned, JT's Basque is repeatedly voted Best Basque Restaurant in the Carson Valley. The family-friendly restaurant actually raises its own grass-fed, antibiotic-free beef and serves locally sourced ingredients. Amazing quality, welcoming and delicious.
7. K.C.'s Outpost – 100 E. Main St., Beatty
Those who eat at K.C.'s Outpost, swear by it. The bread and pastries at this little sandwich shop are made fresh daily. They even roast their own meats. Service here is friendly and the prices are good too.
8. Knotty Pine Restaurant & Lounge – 690 Front St., Caliente
With a large menu and home-style cooking, this family-friendly restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a cozy atmosphere with train decor. There is also a 21-and-over lounge but its separate from the dining area. The pie gets very high marks!
9. Peg’s Glorified Ham n Eggs – 420 S. Sierra St., Reno
This place is "eggs"-cellent. It started with one husband and wife-owned restaurant in Reno and has grown into a whole family affair with several locations in Reno as well as one in Carson City and Sparks. That means you're likely to find a Peg's in your neighborhood. Esquire magazine once awarded this restaurant the "Best Breakfast in America."
10. The Pink House – 193 Genoa Ln., Genoa
You’ll feel right at home at The Pink House. The quaint gourmet cheese and charcuterie shop offers a full menu of sandwiches, salads, cheese plates and more. Talk about neighborhood restaurant, it's literally a Victorian-Style house.
11. Soulfish Poke – 9500 S. Eastern Ave #110, Las Vegas
Ahi poke is a popular delicacy and Las Vegas loves to be trendy. Soulfish Poke is one of the city's neighborhood restaurants that's getting a lot of attention from locals. It's easy to see why. The Hawaiian-inspired food is healthy, filling and delicious. With a location in Las Vegas and Henderson, this down-to-earth eatery feeds your soul with build-your-own artisanal poke bowls full of fresh seafood, veggies, and noodles.
12. Roadrunner Café – 130 Douglas St., Dayton
Located off Dayton’s main street, this is a favorite among Dayton locals. The neighborhood cafe is also frequented by those passing by because of its good prices, good service and good food.
13. Ruby Mountain Pizza - 263 Spring Valley Pkwy., Spring Creek
It's the best pizza in Spring Creek. It's also the only pizza in Spring Creek, but those two facts are not related. This restaurant gem (get it, ruby ... gem), has amazing pizza. They even serve gluten free options.
14. Sassafras Ecclectic Food Joint - 1500 Old Hot Springs Rd., Carson City
Sassafras is fun and quirky with quality food, off the beaten Carson City path. The menu is full of creative choices, prepared by a an experienced kitchen staff. The food is sourced from local vendors, farms, breweries, wineries, bakeries, and coffee roasters. The restaurant often has live music.
15. Slanted Porch – 310 S. Taylor St., Fallon
Not only is it a neighborhood restaurant offering home-cooked meals, the Slanted Porch is a house. With a porch and a yard. In a neighborhood. Go figure! Locally sourced farm-to-table meals and a seasonal menu make for a different culinary experience every time you visit (even better than mom made!).
