Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a true treasure in Nevada. There’s so many things to see and do that it’s hard to pick. We’ve put together a full day trip for you, from breakfast on into the evening, to take full advantage of enjoying the natural beauty of this place.
1. First stop, breakfast at the Little City Grille in Boulder City.
This adorable little restaurant serves hearty breakfast all day with seating outside if the weather is nice. The Little City Grille is located at 825 Nevada Highway in Boulder City.
2. Next up, an early morning hike on the Historic Railroad Trail
This lovely trail is fairly easy and can you walk as much or as little of it as you like. One caveat though is that it can get quite hot in the summer, so if you're doing the hike then make sure you bring lots of water, sunscreen and a hat. The trail is 7 miles out and back and has amazing views of the lake and Hoover Dam if you decide to do the entire route. To get there from Boulder city, take 93 south and make a left on Lake Shore Drive. You will see the parking lot about 500 yards from the turn off on your right.
3. Time for lunch and a perfect choice is The Boat House
Enjoy lunch inside or out on the deck overlooking the marina and taking in the breeze from the lake. The Boat House serves burgers, wraps and sandwiches. It's located on the marina at 490 Horsepower Cove. Getting in will require paying the day pass fee for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area which is $20 (But it's good for seven days!)
4. Now for some afternoon fun with a boat rental on the lake!
You have a couple of options depending on how adventurous you want to be. You can rent anything from kayaks and paddleboards to jet skis, pontoon patio boats and sports boats. Water skiing equipment is available for rent as well. Boating Lake Mead is located at the marina at 490 Horsepower Cove. And remember always practice water safety and wear a life vest!
5. Time for dinner - why not make use of the lake and have a dinner cruise?
Lake Mead Cruises will take you on an evening trip around the lake with a full gourmet meal. The cruises run from April through October. You can
book online as well.
6. Finally rest for the night at the charming Milo's Cellar & Inn
This lovely bed and breakfast, the only one in Boulder City, has a beautiful landscaped courtyard with a fire pit and waterfall koi pond. It's the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening before turning in for the night. Milo's has a massage facility as well if you feel the need for some muscle relaxation after your long day hiking and boating on the lake. Milo's is located at 438 Nevada Way in Boulder City.
