Amaro is an herbal liqueur whose name in Italian means "bitter." Typically, it's made from infusing a base alcohol with some sort of blend of herbs, roots, flowers, and spices.
The owner, master distiller Joe Cannella, opened Ferino Distillery as a way of bringing his family history to life. After all, the name Cannella (the Italian word for "cinnamon") comes from a family history of selling exotic spices all over the world. To Cannella, it only made sense to combine his family history with traditional Italian spirits!
Ferino Distillery has been open for less than a year, but they've already gained some loyal regulars for their delicious Cannella Cinnamon Cordial, Fernet Cannella, and Amaro Cannella.
The distillery itself is cozy and welcoming, perfect for hanging out and conversing with friends new and old while sipping on a craft cocktail. The distillery also features a pour-over coffee bar near the entrance.
Recently, Ferino Distillery started offering behind-the-scenes tours of the amaro distilling process. Although currently on hold due to COVID-19, these unique tours would be a great way to get to know Reno's newest distillery.
