The Alpine Lakes Loop is a 2.7-mile trail that gains about 600 feet in elevation. It is most accessible during late spring and summer - snow can be a hindrance during fall, winter, and early spring. The trail isn't very difficult to follow and is suitable for hikers of all skill levels
The trail's most prominent feature is that it takes you past two beautiful alpine lakes: Stella Lake and Teresa Lake. Wheeler Peak towers over the lakes and makes for a breathtaking backdrop while rich wooded landscapes completely immerse you.
The trailhead can be found at the Bristlecone Parking Area, near the Wheeler Peak Campground. Following the trail, you'll be led through a variety of mesmerizing scenes, including forests and wide open meadows.
You'll arrive at Stella Lake first. Surrounded by trees and mountain peaks, the lake is picturesque. From Stella Lake, you'll follow the trail for another mile as it meets up with a small creek that feeds into the second lake.
Teresa Lake is the smaller of the two, but it's just as gorgeous. It presents an even better view of Wheeler Peak. Take your time to soak it all in. Then, you can head back as the trail meets up with the Bristlecone Grove Trail
