Consisting of 77,000 acres in eastern Nevada, there’s basically always something to explore in Great Basin National Park. From rugged peaks to underground caves, the state’s only national park never ceases to amaze in regards to just how much it has to offer. The next time you visit Great Basin though, be sure to check out the Alpine Lakes Trail. It’s just under three miles and it takes you past TWO gorgeous alpine lakes!

The Alpine Lakes Trail is 2.7-miles in its entirety with 600-feet of elevation gain. Starting at the Bristlecone Parking Area near the Wheeler Peak Campground, the brief but beautiful trail takes you on an epic journey in this incredible region of Nevada.
From the trailhead, you'll immediately enter a lush forested area that follows the same trail to the Wheeler Peak Summit. You'll come to a fork shortly after starting the trail. Be sure to stay left to continue towards the first of the two alpine lakes.
The first lake you'll pass on the trail is Stella Lake and it is absolutely stunning! Known for its crystal clear waters, Stella Lake is an awesome spot to soak up views of Wheeler Peak.
You'll continue on from Stella Lake for about a mile before reaching the second body of water, Teresa Lake. Teresa Lake is smaller but still incredibly scenic. It also boasts views of the towering and mighty Wheeler Peak in the background.
The trail is a loop trail, so simply keep following it from Teresa Lake as it loops around and leads you back to the parking lot. For a longer adventure, you can always hop onto the adjoining Bristlecone Grove Trail for even more epic scenery.
The Alpine Lakes Trail gives hikers a small taste of the brilliant high elevation backcountry that eastern Nevada has to offer. It's a great place to start your next Great Basin adventure, so definitely be sure to check it out!
